A crossroads

I've been thinking about this post for a while now and I just don't know how to start or end. So, this may not be clever or witty or even written well but I really want people to know.

I don't want to have a profession in cooking. I've tried different avenues of cooking trying to be successful and have always come up short. Which, by the way, is very unlike me. I can do anything I set my mind to. I just felt pressured by my school debt and my degree to do what I graduated in. I realized, though, that the pressure I was feeling was in my head. So, I decided to let it go.

Ok, it's off my chest. You are now probably thinking what Michael, the very supportive husband (VERY) asked me, "Ok, now what?" The answer is...I don't know. I have some ideas of what I want to do but for the most part I have no idea. So, here I am searching for a new career path. In the meantime I'll keep my current job and see where I end up.

Don't feel bad! You still have a lot of working years ahead and want to make sure that you LOVE what you do. I went to school for Dental Assisting and have thought about going into hygiene in the future, but I have been working on the business end for several years now and have decided I really like it and may want to further that end. We are still young!

You're not unusual. I have my degree in photography, and I have done absolutely nothing with it. When people find out, they're like, "oh, so you have a nice expensive camera and you can take our family pictures!" And I'm like, "No, I don't really like photography. Sorry." A hint someone once told me is to start taking note of what you like to do when you don't have anything to do (besides watching tv) What you do in your spare time is what makes you happy. Find a way to make a career out of your spare time, and boom! you've got it!
p.s. don't worry if it takes you awhile to figure it out either. Most people spend a good deal of their lives trying to figure this out. And it changes with time! So just enjoy the ride of getting to know yourself better.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that! You will bless your family with the skills (not just cooking) that you have learned, and you will continue to bless yourself as you discover where and what you want to be.

You're awesome!

I know exactly how you feel. About 3/4 of the way through my accounting degree, I've decided I really don't want to be an accountant. I'm going to go ahead and finish my degree because it'd be dumb and a waste of time & money to quit now. But I'll honestly probably just stay at the job I have now once I finish. Until something better comes along.
It's good that what you went to school for is something that will be useful in your life, even if you don't do it as a career. And I'm sure you'll figure out what you want to do eventually. You've got plenty of time ahead of you. You can do anything your heart desires. I think you should look at it as a good thing. : )
